Cento città in musica

“Cento Città in Musica” (Latium Opera Program) is a project established in 2004 with the purpose of setting up grand operas and symphonic events in some of the most striking locations in various Italian towns.

The project has involved several medium and small Italian towns that have participated in the past yearly editions: Campagnano, Frascati, Fiumicino, Colleferro, Pomezia, Albano, Cerveteri, Anguillara, Valmontone, Capena, Civitavecchia, Artena, Sant’Oreste, Santa Marinella, Gaeta, Arezzo, Campobasso, Carrara, Crotone, Volterra, Minturno, Miranda. Even if the finances of such small towns cannot be compared to those of larger cities, Europa Musica can produce high level operas which attract large audiences, by offering shows worthy of the best national repertoire, thanks to the advantageous economies of scale, the contribution of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and other private contributions.

Local agencies have financially supported the festivals with the same quota per town, reaching the best results with the least effort, thus proving that opera can finally be produced at high level with a great cast, not only in large cities, but also in small and medium towns, at an affordable cost.

Such efforts are meant to spread, even at the outermost levels, a repertoire that represents an important part of our cultural identity and that, for this reason, is recognized worldwide as symbol of Italian culture. Furthermore, they are also meant to enhance the artistic and cultural heritage of the towns that participate in the “Cento Città in Musica” project. This is done by promoting all information regarding the event, by means of traditional channels (press, radio and tv) and on the web, but also by publishing texts, files, pod-casts and data about the main cultural and tourist activities of the hosting towns, thus exalting their local attractions and historical sites.
